ITEM CARE

Where can I find information about sizing?

All of our size charts can be found on each product listing page below the description. Once you click the link you will find clearly marked industry standard measurements we have taken for each size.

We recommend that you look at the specific product listing of the item you are looking to purchase. We do our best to make every new garment match perfectly to our sizing requirements but each item may vary slightly depending on the finishing process.

If you have further questions regarding the fit of a certain item, please don’t hesitate to contact us at orders@mokuyobi.com. We want to make sure you’ll be comfortable in and thrilled with your purchase!

We can make adjustments to the strap of bags at no additional cost. Just make a note at checkout or reach out to orders@mokuyobi.com with your order number. Please note that if we make an adjustment to your bag, it is ineligible for a return.

How do I wash my garment? Will it shrink?

With new apparel items, please take care by washing them on cold with a like-colored old towel to help soak up any loose dye for the first two washes. Do not let new items sit wet in the washer once the cycle has finished- this will cause dye transfer. Make sure to immediately put them in the dryer. Please tumble dry on a low setting.

To keep your vibrant clothes looking new, we suggest only washing them with other colorful items. Washing them with dark clothing will cause them to fade and become muddy. Keep your beautiful colors away from any harsh detergents, stain removers, and bleach. If you have any specific questions, please reach out to us at orders@mokuyobi.com.

All apparel items are pre-washed, and will not shrink. The measurements that we list will remain the same after you wash your item. We offer a premium product. We want you to be confident in the fit when you purchase, not wondering how much it will shrink after you wash it once.

How do I wash my bag?

All of our cotton or nylon bags are machine washable but should not be put in the dryer as it will affect the foam material. If your bag gets dirty we recommend using a light stain remover on any trouble spots and washing your bag on the cold setting. Your bag may also be hand washed. After washing, please hang it to dry. Do not leave the bag to soak in still water for any extended period of time.

BRAND INFO

Our Name

Mokuyobi means Thursday in Japanese. To us, Thursday is the best day of the week. We believe that there is always something to look forward to. Whether it’s Thursday, your buddy‘s party, vacation time, or a hot date; that there are always good things coming that spark excitement. We strive to create that same spark in you when your Mokuyobi package arrives.

In part, we chose our name as an homage to Japan and the respect we have for its people and culture.

Our Logo

The mountain in our logo represents a personal challenge; something you want to achieve or overcome. The lights that come out from behind the mountain are the mystery that awaits you, glowing in the distance. Only once you have climbed your “mountain” and reached the peak will the unknown be revealed to you.

Our Founder and Creative Director, Julie, has always had an affinity for mountains which you can see from the multiple mountain patch designs we offer. She thinks they are a beautiful metaphor for obstacles as well as a visual wonder.

We have had this logo since 2016. Before then our logo was a flag as well as some other earlier iterations since our founding in 2006.

Some people are excited to call the mountain in our logo Mt. Fuji. We are happy for any positive association our customers and fans have with any art that we create. We do not inform the experience of anyone who views our designs.

Our Space

Little Tokyo is a vibrant district filled with shops and restaurants that is frequented by locals and tourists alike. The space that we are leasing was vacant for 10+ years after the restaurant there closed in the early 2000s. It was briefly an office space for 2 years and then sat vacant for another 2.5 years before we expressed interest in the location. No businesses were pushed out or rent rates were changed by us moving into this one consistently vacant second floor space.

Little Tokyo is thriving and we embrace the long history and valued character of the neighborhood. We love this neighborhood and are excited to share the other shops and restaurants we frequent here with the customers and fans that visit our store. We are not changing the character of the neighborhood as we join many other non-Japanese and non-JA business owners in Little Tokyo.

Clarifying Brand Direction

As we stated earlier, our name is an homage to Japanese culture, however our name does not dictate our design or aesthetic. We offer a unique product that is not borrowing from any specific culture. We love to use color in unique and fun palettes as well as playful and abstract prints. Our goal as a brand is to make fun and functional products with high quality fabrics and materials that are locally made with fair and ethical production practices.

Local Support

Countless community members and local Little Tokyo businesses have expressed support to us for opening in the area. The business owners of Little Tokyo are a diverse group that all share the same immense love for the area, and we have greatly enjoyed getting to know them as we prepared our new location. Historically, Little Tokyo has always welcomed any shop that opened in the community, and this has not changed. Little Tokyo is a friendly, supportive place that is open to all to with the goal of starting a business, participating in the community, or just visiting to enjoy the area.

Responding to Online Attacks

We are aware of a group of individuals that has been spreading false and defamatory information about us online. We find it very disheartening that a group claiming to represent positive values has chosen to express itself this way. While this is a shame, we accept that we cannot control what is posted online and that the internet does not reflect real life.

We will not engage with any message or comment that is meant to degrade or shame. We have zero-tolerance for this behavior and our social media pages are not a platform for others’ hateful rhetoric and bullying. We exist to promote positivity and spread joy. To anyone who comes to Little Tokyo at some point, we are excited for you to experience the friendly environment and lovely community that has welcomed us along with so many others.

We hope that any individual who purchases our products does so because they like our offerings, quality, and ethical practices.
